How it works
How InsiderSignals Works
InsiderSignals turns public insider filings into scored signals (0–100) so you can quickly see which insider trades matter most — without the noise.
In one line: We monitor insider filings, score the highest-signal equity purchases, and deliver a ranked live feed + filters + export for deeper analysis.
What are insider trades? (Plain English)
When company insiders — like executives and directors — buy or sell securities related to their company, they must report those trades publicly.
That means anyone can access the raw data… but raw insider feeds are noisy:
- Many filings are routine or administrative
- A lot of activity isn't a true "conviction buy" (e.g., derivatives, grants, exercises)
- You can't tell at a glance which actions historically mattered most
InsiderSignals helps by ranking the trades most likely to be informative and keeping everything else clearly accessible for research.
Note: This is based on public disclosures. It's not "illegal insider trading."
The Live Feed (what you see first)
The Live Feed is a constantly updating list of insider filings, with each row showing key details at a glance.
Each row shows:
- Signal (score where applicable)
- Ticker / Company
- Insider (name + role)
- Type (Buy, Sell, Derivative, etc.)
- Value (trade size)
How to read the Live Feed (table callouts)
1) Signal (0–100)
We reserve scoring for true insider equity purchases — these are typically the clearest expression of conviction (an insider choosing to buy shares). Higher score = stronger historical signal strength.
2) Insider + role
Role matters (e.g., CEO/CFO vs director), and is shown directly in the feed.
3) Type
Not all filings mean the same thing. Every row is clearly labeled (buy/sell/derivative/other), so you can filter quickly.
4) Value
Trade value provides context — large purchases can signal higher conviction than small, routine activity.
5) Click any row
Every scored purchase expands into a detail view explaining why it scored the way it did.
Quick tip: Many users start by filtering to Equity Purchases and scores 80+ to focus on the highest-conviction signals.
What the score means (0–100)
Every true insider equity purchase receives a Signal Score from 0 to 100. This score is designed to answer one question:
"Based on historical patterns, how strong is this purchase as a signal?"
Higher score = stronger historical signal. It's a model estimate, not a guarantee.
Why a signal scored high (score card callouts)
When you open a scored equity purchase, you'll see an explanation card that summarizes what's driving the score.
Example: What you'll see
Signal summary
A short plain-English sentence about the setup (example: "Exceptional upside potential, mainly driven by strong insider track record.")
Key drivers (3-factor explanation)
- Insider Quality — Who made the purchase and how informative their prior purchases have been historically.
- Market Context — High-level context around the purchase (e.g., liquidity/volatility/regime context) that affects how similar signals have behaved historically.
- Transaction Strength — The strength of the purchase itself — including conviction patterns (e.g., size and other characteristics that historically correlate with stronger outcomes).
The goal of the explanation card is simple: you shouldn't have to guess why something is ranked high.
What we show (full coverage, clearly labeled)
InsiderSignals is designed for both quick scanning and deep research.
Scored signals (what we rank)
True insider equity purchases are scored and ranked because they are most often the highest-signal category.
Full dataset (what you can filter/export)
You still get the full picture of insider activity, including:
- Sells
- Derivatives / options-related activity
- Other reported transaction types
These are clearly labeled in the feed, can be filtered and sorted, and are available via Excel download so you can run your own screens and analyses.
Filters, sorting, and export (for power users)
Use the product at two speeds: quick "top signals" scanning, or detailed research.
Common workflows
- Filter to Equity Purchases only
- Set a score threshold (e.g., 80+)
- Filter by insider role (CEO/CFO)
- Filter by value (e.g., $250K+)
- Sort by score/value/recency
- Export results to Excel for custom analysis
Excel download
Export lets you:
- Build your own models and watchlists
- Backtest custom rules
- Combine insider activity with your own datasets
Backtesting and validation (credibility section)
InsiderSignals scoring is validated using historical data across 10+ years and 5M+ insider trades.
You'll see headline results on key score bands (example):
Our highest-ranked signals are 4 times more likely to hit +30% within 90 days than other insider buys—and on average, the upside outweighs the downside by 2–3 times.
Important: This reflects historical testing and does not guarantee future results.

Is this illegal insider trading?
No. We use public disclosures insiders are required to file.
Why score only equity purchases?
Equity purchases are typically the clearest expression of discretionary conviction. Scoring everything equally can inflate noise and dilute what a high score means.
Do you still show sells and derivatives?
Yes — they're included, clearly labeled, filterable, sortable, and exportable to Excel.
Isn't this data already public?
Yes — the value is in scoring, ranking, explainability, and workflow tooling so you can act faster with less noise.
How fast do you alert after a filing?
Typically within ~15 minutes (depending on filing availability).
